My first real project in web development came in 1996 as a member of the fledgeling U.S. Scouting Service Project. When I came onboard the site featured an image map for navigation and search. In those early heady days we measured visits with a counter and were delighted with tens of thousands of visits.

Over the next decade, I redesigned the site and re-coded the sites’ 30,000 pages of content using .asp with core include files to manage all but the content pages facilitating future design changes. The single website usscouts.org has now grown to nearly 30 domains that form the U.S. Scouting Service Project family of web sites. The family of sites shares a common brand and appearance.

Today these web sites pull in about 10 million page views per month. The current design of the site is illustrated below.

About Webnme

The developer's first experience with computers was with Fortran IV. Wow that's ancient. After graduate school, he taught history for a number of years at a community college before attending law school and becoming an attorney. In 1997 he changed careers to become a web developer/designer with an interest in all things web related. He currently maintains several dozen websites including a family of websites for a non-profit corporation that gets over five million page views monthly. This is his developer website. The opinions expressed are his own.
